Political Valentines: A Minnesota Love Story (with a Twist)
In this TPT Almanac essay, Tane Danger imagines political valentines exchanged by Minnesota’s leaders. Watch the video for a hilarious and insightful take on local politics!
What if Minnesota’s political leaders expressed their thoughts not through press conferences, but through Valentine’s Day cards? In a recent segment for TPT Almanac, Danger Boat Productions’ own Tane Danger imagines what some of these love notes might look like.
From Amy Klobuchar’s bittersweet farewell to Minnesota to recreational marijuana hoping for Governor Walz’s affection, this segment blends humor, satire, and sharp political commentary.
A Few of Our Favorite Political Valentines:
✔️ Amy Klobuchar to Minnesota: I love you, but I think it's time I start seeing other people.
✔️ The Minnesota GOP to Twin Cities Transit: We love light rail to pieces—so much that we try to take it to pieces in our budget.
✔️ Recreational marijuana to Governor Walz: Do you support me? Circle yes or no. (With a very politician-style response!)
This is the kind of clever, good-natured satire that makes Minnesota politics both frustrating and funny.

Tane Danger:
Did you know that Minnesota's political leaders all exchange Valentine's every year? It goes back to when Governor John Lind sent Woodrow Wilson a love letter saying, I love you so much, I would give my left arm for you.
Anyway, I've got my hands on some of this year's political and I thought I would share them. Ooh, this one's nice. This is from Amy Klobuchar to the people of Minnesota. It says, I love Minnesota, but then it says inside, but I think it's time I start seeing other people.
Oh, okay. So then this one, oh, this one's from the house, GOP, the Minnesota House GOP to Twin Cities Transit. It says we love light rail to pieces, which is why we try and take it into pieces in our budget. Okay, that's good.
Alright, I'm going to keep going. So good one. Oh, this is nice. This is from the Minnesota DFL to rural Minnesota to farmers in rural Minnesota. It says, oh, we love you this much. Oh, look at it all unfurls. Oh, it also has this note in the bottom. It says, this is also the length of buffer strips on your agricultural land this term.
Alright, and then one last one. This is my favorite. This is actually from medical, or from recreational marijuana to Governor Walz. And it's inside. It's very sweet. It says, do you support me? Circle yes, circle no. But Governor Walls actually wrote something in the column here. He wrote, if those discussions are all able to, which I think they can be done, and which is satisfactory, that we have explored all of the alternatives and all of the pros and cons about it and crafted good policy legislation. And then yes, probably in time.
So, alright. Happy Valentine's Day, all of Minnesota and Almanac. Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
