When you want to make it NOT BORING!

Custom Experiences

We can help you make your next event, meeting, conference, party stand out from the crowd with a truly custom experience. You can à la carte from our menu of shows below or we can dream up something truly new and unique together.

  • While the name might give it away, we interview a smart person about an issue. Our cast takes notes to bring the topic to life through a comedy improv performance!

  • While we can't teach you how to dance, we can teach you how to improvise, which has many off-stage, real-life applications!

  • Do you love trivia? How about a custom quiz show for your event where everyone in the audience plays along? We'll work with you to develop material and transform it into one of your favorite classic gameshows.

  • Many times, the wisdom is already in the room. We'll ask some big questions and our performers will spread out into the audience to hear what everyone is thinking. They'll then reflect on what they hear with improv.

  • Hallmark Channel, eat your heart out! This is an entirely improvised holiday special…and it’s a musical! Enjoy a made-up every holiday show that uses elements from your favorite holiday movies.

  • The audience takes center stage! We'll give a prompt to the crowd and then our cast will bring it to life. Think public forum meets SNL.

  • We've created tours for art museums, breweries and more. Learning is a lot more fun when led by an improviser! We'll help you design a tour for inside or outside.

  • What's better than ending the day on a high note? Our performers will attend your event just like everyone else, except they're taking notes to create a hilarious show based on the day.

  • What is a host with the most? Tane Danger is his name and he draws on his experience as an expert interviewer and improviser to get your guests engaged, excited, on their feet, dancing a jig…hey, whatever it takes to ensure y’all enjoy yourselves!

Our clients say the nicest things

“No one else does what they do. They offer a much higher value for community building than a regular improv show. If you’re interested in introducing content of any kind — not just the hard stuff — their format gives you a place to present a story, be entertained, and make it memorable.”

— Wini Froelich, Program Specialist, Mill City Museum

“Our team had so much fun! What is normally a lengthy strategy day became a fun team-building experience. Danger Boat’s fun demeanor and skill brought out a silly, engaging aspect of our team which is often missing from meetings. We have wonderful memories from our improv experience.”

— Anne O’Connor LNHA, Carondelet Village

Bringing them back to Minneapolis…with history?!

Summary

It was 2021, the summer after the pandemic shutdown and the uprisings following the murder George Floyd. The Mill City Museum had been closed for a year. People were still nervous about attending indoor events, especially in Minneapolis. Wini Froelich, the program specialist at the Mill City Museum, led a coalition of local historic/visitor organizations —  Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, Mississippi Park Connection and Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock Visitor Center — to develop a program to begin engaging people again in history by connecting it with modern events. Having been to a few Theater of Public Policy performances, she knew that Danger Boat would be an ideal partner to bring such an event to life.

Services

While Wini knew DBP was an expert at making tough subjects accessible through humor, she didn’t know exactly how to build the program. There is so much history around urban-related issues that they could feature a range of topics. But how could they make it also really fun to attract people to attend? She also was concerned about buy-in. Sometimes, organizations that cover history are hesitant to take on the relevance of modern issues that could have political viewpoints attached. Danger Boat's brand of inclusive humor would make it easier for everyone to participate in the conversation.

Working closely together, Danger Boat quickly honed in on a series of interview-based comedy shows at different historical sites, titled What Makes Minneapolis, Minneapolis?  At each site, they interview a different expert on a different topic. At St. Anthony Lock and Dam, the topic was Mississippi River History; at A Mill Lofts the topic was Scandal on the Waterfront; and they performed about Affordable Housing Past & Present in the courtyard of the Mill City Museum.

Success

The events were very well attended by different audiences at each site. The people who attended were engaged and participated in the topic of the evening. Each event had a wonderful reception and people loved it so much that it sparked their interest to find out more about the issue, and even, take action. The coalition’s goals were achieved and Wini has invited Danger Boat back to the Mill City Museum to perform at the first Minnesota Historic Society exhibition focused on LGBTQIA history.
